'Imagine a place where it would appear that nothing could survive. Where desert brings thoughts of vast open spaces and limitless horizons. This is a place with moon landscapes and canyons and a self-sustaining ecosystem that brings these dreams to life' ....taken from Across the Divide Expedition Leaders charity trek report.

Only in the desert can you understand the immensity of Nature. The vastness of the sky, the infinity of the stars, the absoluteness of the silence. A silence broken only by the rasp of the wind or the scuffle of some desert denizen – a silence unimaginable in our busy, over-crowded lives.

Sahara Desert Charity Trek

Our trek route has been designed to allow our participations to experience as much as possible of the varied landscape of the Sahara, and oases fringed with date palms and acacia. It takes us well away from the established travel routes along a trade route still used by the nomadic Berber and Toureg tribesmen, whom we will hope to encounter during our journey.

Morocco Multi Activity Charity Challenge

Our Sahara multi discipline event is the ultimate challenge and this is not an adventure for the faint hearted.  You will discover a landscape of awe-inspiring beauty..

The ergs, or great sand seas familiar from the films, The English Patient and Lawrence of Arabia, are only part of the picture, accounting for less than 20% of the desert surface.   The rest is composed of reg and hamada:  arid, boulder strewn plains where ceaseless winds and furious sandstorms have whittled the rock into bizarre sculptures.   There are high rocky plateaux, and above and between lie extinct volcanoes and dried up wadis (i.e. riverbeds), shadowy canyons and mountains touched with snow.

For the formation of opinion, for the stirring and enlivenment of thought, and for the discernment of colour and proportion, the gifts of travel, especially travel on foot, are priceless. Winston Churchill - 1908

With the help and encouragement of your team and the other trekkies, I MADE IT! The feeling I had crossing the finish line was something I will never forget. Many thanks again and I will have no hesitation in recommending your fantastic company Marilyn Adelmann 2005 Anti Atlas Trek.

Anti Atlas Charity Trek

We trek through remote mud villages protected by Kasbahs, high rocky plateaux, deep gorges and hidden oases.  The area is of striking physical beauty and its landscape is deeply inspired by both history and an older and abiding sense of mystery.

This is a tough challenge but one which offers its own unique rewards, both physical and mental.  Participants will be able to experience the rugged beauty of the Anti Atlas Mountains and the renowned hospitality of the Berber people who have inhabited the area for generations.
Jebel Toubkal Climb

This is a short climb over five days. Climbing Toubkal does not require any previous mountaineering experience, just determination to scramble up innumerable scree slopes!

It is not possible to climb between November and March as snow and ice make the mountain face dangerous even for experienced mountaineers.  The best time of year is April to June, before it gets too hot! Toubkal is Morocco's (and indeed North Africa's) highest mountain and on clear days the views are incredible in all directions particularly north to Marrakech and south to the Sahara

The Morocco Code of Hospitality

...is very evident in the way in which the team treat you from the welcome cup of mint tea at the end of a hard day's charity trekking to the freshly squeezed orange juice available in the morning. It always seems that nothing is too much trouble.

The diversity of our charity treks and charity challenges in Morocco covers the whole of the country to the south of Marrakech. From summiting on North Africa's highest peak, Mount Toubkal, to exploring the valleys of the Anti Atlas Mountains and team challenges in the Sahara we can provide you with whatever you need.

Other highlights include:

Marrakech & Place Djemma el-Fna
Marrakech is a lively former capital famed for its markets and festivals. Its wildly beating heart is the Place Djemaa el-Fna, a huge square in the old city. Rows of open-air food stalls are set up here and mouth-watering aromas fill the air. Jugglers, storytellers, snake charmers, magicians, acrobats and assorted benign lunatics take over the rest of the space. The souqs (markets) here are among the best in Morocco and, indeed, North Africa.

Tafraoute - About halfway down Morocco's Atlantic coast, Tafraoute is a good base for hiking trips in the surrounding hills and to Berber villages. Just outside the town is a rather eccentric array of painted rocks. The Belgian artist behind the strange attraction chose a number of smooth rounded boulders peculiar to the region as his canvas. There are some fantastic villages to be visited in the area.

Essaouira
This town is the most popular of Morocco's coastal spots with independent travellers, and only rarely do you see package tours here. By the looks of things, however, this won't last forever. Essaouira has a beautiful beach that curves for kilometres to the south. Those who've had enough haggling and jostling in the big cities will be glad to hear that this town can be summed up in one word, relaxing. The forts of the old city are a blend of Portuguese, French and Berber military architecture, and their massiveness lends a powerful mystique to the town. The Skala du Port, designed to protect the town's sea, has good views and was also where Orson Welles shot some of his film Othello. A great place for seafood!
