About Norway
Across the Divide is the foremost provider of charity challenges and charity dog sledding or sledging in the Arctic. Our team, back up, and level of service are second to none. We have chosen Northern Norway as the location for our charity dog sled expeditions in order to attain a greater sense of wilderness, but we can provide all services in northern Sweden as well.
Dog sledding in the land of the midnight sun, is a unique charity challenge and is a wonderful experience. Having your own team of huskies, sledding in remote areas, staying in cabins - gives you a real sense of wilderness.

Extreme Dog Sledding
Our extreme event takes Dog Sledding to the next level. Covering 335km over difficult Arctic terrain, participants will battle against the elements with their trusty team of dogs. Because of the extreme nature of this event, we can only accept participants that have been on one of our previous Dog Sledding Expeditions. |
Other highlights include: Mingle with Polar Bears. For some, the thought of mingling with polar bears is as appealing as eating herring, but for brave wildlife enthusiasts interested in viewing these creatures in the wild, a trip to Scandinavia's Svalbard Islands is an absolute must. Head to Longyearbyen, the area's capital, where adventurers can rent camping equipment, snowmobiles, and protection (i.e. guns) recommended by local tourist authorities. As you explore, you'll be surrounded by wild and unspoiled Arctic nature, spectacular mountains, and glaciers. Gettin' chilly on the Svalbard Islands. Though navigating the islands can be difficult — much of the land is covered in snow and ice year-round, and there are just 28 miles of road around Longyearbyen — breaking out of the capital city is worth a try. Attractions include Ny Elesund, the world's northernmost permanent human settlement (reachable by boat, helicopter, or snow scooter), and some of the best locales for observing the northern lights. Pack your thermals — it seldom gets warmer than +6 celsius, and head to the Norwegian town of Tromso for connections to the islands. Watch the Northern Lights. Scrap the lights show at your local planetarium and head to Tromso for the real deal. This picturesque Norwegian town is the best place in Scandinavia to watch this spectacular phenomenon. This display of light in the sky — which Aristotle described as resembling the flames of burning gas — can be seen only in the world's polar regions, and Tromso is viewing at its best. The eerie effect is caused by particles from the solar wind getting trapped in the Earth's magnetic field. The lights "turn on" when particles collide with the top layer of the atmosphere, creating the effect of glowing red, green, and blue neon flames that wave back and forth like a curtain in the sky. Check out the lights in this northern town, then hit the Tromso planetarium. The town of Tromso is accessible by air, coastal steamer or coach from Narvik. |
